Student Leader Learning Outcomes & Rubrics
Student Leader Learning Outcomes (SLLO) project: The SLLO initiative was created for students and advisors to document student leadership and growth over time. SLLO does not operate under one leadership theory, but seeks to use multiple leadership models to allow students and advisor to utilize their resources in a variety of arenas. Created by the predecessor to the DSA Committee on Student Learning in the Co-Curricular (CSL), the SLLO Project received national recognition from NASPA, Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education, through their Excellence Awards. The Project was featured in NASPA's Excellence in Student Affairs and Teaching webinar on November 19, 2009. Its rubrics and outcomes are periodically updated by the CSL, most recently in 2022.
Choosing a rubric: The SLLO rubrics and their accompaning learning experience outcomes associate with TAMU Undergraduate Learning Outcomes or National Association of Colleges & Employer (NACE) competencies. All organizations are not created equally, so advisors need to understand the mission and culture of the organization, the individual or group readiness to adopt learning strategies, and their own readiness to talk to student leaders about learning. The guide, Choosing a Rubric 8-2024, may help the users decide with topics may be best addressed with different groups.
