I-Week 2024 | The International Festival, known as I-Week, is a weeklong festival and Texas A&M’s largest cultural celebration. It is designed to bring cultural awareness to those attending as well as to serve as a platform for cultural organizations and individuals to share their home cultures with the Texas A&M community. This year, I-Week took place February 26-March 1, 2024, and consisted of a variety of events including I-Exhibit, I-Story, I-Dinner, I-Show, I-Art, and I-Awards. MSC SCONA 69 - Spring 2024 | Each spring the Memorial Student Center (MSC) Student Conference on National Affairs (SCONA) hosts a conference to provide “programs for students across Texas, the nation, and the world to exchange ideas and discuss the role of the United States in the global community.” The theme for SCONA 69 was “American Grand Strategy: Winning the Decisive Decade,” and was held on February 15-17, 2024. SCONA 69 utilized speakers and team facilitators with first-hand experiences in the topics to guide delegates in the creation of a policy paper. SGA Diversity and Inclusion Committee Student Feedback | The Student Government Association (SGA) Diversity and Inclusion Committee wanted to gather feedback from the Texas A&M University student body to gain insight into what issues or initiatives were essential to the student body and how their committee could better meet the needs of the students at Texas A&M. The survey focused on potential issues students could be facing in the current environment regarding diversity and inclusion and how it impacts students’ success at Texas A&M. MSC Student Programs Diversity Climate Survey | The Memorial Student Center (MSC) Student Programs Office provides leadership development opportunities for students through its 18 programming committees and resource areas. MSC Diversity leadership wanted to assess how MSC committee members and executive teams perceived the diversity initiatives instituted toward creating an inclusive student union. MSC Conway-Fitzhugh Summer 2023 Assessment | The Memorial Student Center (MSC) Conway-Fitzhugh coordinates a summer study abroad trip to Italy for incoming freshmen who qualify as National Merit Scholars. This year, the three-week-long trip was in July 2023. Trip participants were assessed through an electronic survey after returning from the trip at the beginning of their first semester at Texas A&M University in an effort to gauge how well the outcomes were met and the overall impact of this experience on these students. This is the first time Student Affairs Planning, Assessment & Research (SAPAR) worked with the MSC to assess the Conway-Fitzhugh experience. International Graduate Student Assessment - Spring 2023 | The Graduate and Professional Student Government (GPSG) wanted to assess the experiences of international graduate and professional students at Texas A&M to identify areas in which GPSG could work with International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) to improve international graduate students’ experience. More specifically, GPSG wanted to understand international graduate students’ experiences as they encounter processes unique to international students, like the I-20 processes, using the Terra Dotta system, and processes in applying and participating in Optional Practical Training (OPT). MSC FLI Coast Rica Service Trip - 2022 | The Memorial Student Center (MSC) Freshmen Leadership International (FLI) coordinates an international service-learning program in Costa Rica for its members and any freshman in a Freshman Leadership Organization (FLO) each year over spring break. This year, the service-learning experience was from March 12-18, 2022. MSC FLI indicated the purpose of the trip for participants is to learn about another culture, enhance their Spanish language skills, experience the rainforest, and engage with local community members. Trip participants were assessed at three different points during the experience to gauge how well the outcomes were met and the overall impact of this experience. Mi Casa es Su Casa 2019-2020 | Mi Casa es Su Casa are a series of dinners hosted by faculty and staff for students throughout the academic year. Sponsored by MSC CAMAC, these dinners intend participants to network with other students and faculty and staff, and gain a better understanding of opportunities that can open in the future. This year three dinners were held - two in the fall semester and one in the spring. After the November and February dinners participating students were sent surveys in effort to better understand their experience. The hosts were sent a survey after the last dinner to also gain a better understanding of their experience with the student organizers and what improvements or changes they recommend for next year's events. MSC FLI Costa Rica Service Trip - Spring 2020 | The Memorial Student Center (MSC) Freshmen Leadership International (FLI) coordinates one major international travel experience for its members each year over spring break. MSC FLI went to Costa Rica again this year from March 7-13, 2020 for this international travel experience. MSC FLI indicated the following outcomes for participants: • Participants demonstrate a willingness to step out of their comfort zone to try something new. Trip participants were assessed at different points during the experience to gauge how well the outcomes were met and the overall impact of this experience.
