Fish Camp Non-Participant Survey - Fall 2023 | Fish Camp, an optional extended orientation camp, provides a transition from high school to college for approximately 6,000 incoming freshmen. Fish Camp has assessed different aspects of the program since 2000. Fish Camp wanted to assess the freshmen who did not attend Fish Camp to understand their first semester at Texas A&M and find out if there are things Fish Camp can do in their marketing and programming for more students to attend. This is the seventh time Fish Camp has specifically sought feedback from non-participants. Fish Camp Participant Evaluation - Summer 2023 | According to its website (http://fishcamp.tamu.edu/mission/), Fish Camp strives to “welcome freshmen into the Aggie Family by sharing the traditions and values of Texas A&M University and building long-term relationships that embody the Aggie spirit.” Fish Camp operates as a student organization and is housed in the Department of Student Activities. This year, eight sessions were held in person from July 24th through August 13th, 2023. Fish Camp used to be a four-day camp at Lakeview Methodist Conference Center in Palestine, TX. However, starting in 2021 Fish Camp was shortened to three days. Fish Camp leaders and advisors wanted to understand the participants’ camp experiences and how Fish Camp affected, if at all, the start of the fall semester for those who attended. Health Promotion Hullabaloo U - My Aggie Wellness Journey Assessment 2023 | Student Life Health Promotion (HP) staff offered 2023 Hullabaloo U instructors a series of 40-minute lessons to facilitate as part of the Hullabaloo U curriculum during their fall 2023 courses. The first lesson, My Aggie Wellness Journey, was intended to be delivered in the early weeks of the semester between August 24, 2023, and September 30, 2023. Students participating in the lesson were offered an open link or a QR code to access a survey at the end of the lesson, which assessed whether the students met the learning outcomes and whether they were receptive to and participated in lesson activities. SGA - University President Search Feedback | The Student Government Association (SGA) wanted to gather feedback from the Texas A&M University student body and student organization leaders to understand what students would like to see in the next university president. The survey focused on the importance of the new president demonstrating Texas A&M University’s Core Values, top issues for a new president to address, and characteristics students would like to see in the new president. SGA worked with campus partners in developing survey questions and worked with Student Affairs Planning, Assessment & Research to administer the survey. MSC Conway-Fitzhugh Summer 2023 Assessment | The Memorial Student Center (MSC) Conway-Fitzhugh coordinates a summer study abroad trip to Italy for incoming freshmen who qualify as National Merit Scholars. This year, the three-week-long trip was in July 2023. Trip participants were assessed through an electronic survey after returning from the trip at the beginning of their first semester at Texas A&M University in an effort to gauge how well the outcomes were met and the overall impact of this experience on these students. This is the first time Student Affairs Planning, Assessment & Research (SAPAR) worked with the MSC to assess the Conway-Fitzhugh experience. ATC T-Camp 2023 Counselor/Teamer/Cochair & Camper Surveys | The purpose of this assessment was to understand the experiences of students who participated in T-Camp, sponsored by Aggie Transition Camps (ATC). T-Camp is an extended (three-day) optional orientation camp for students who are transferring to Texas A&M University. There was one session held from August 9th through August 11th. A few weeks into the semester, survey evaluations were sent to co-chairs, counselors, and teamers, and another survey was sent to participants (campers) to assess their camp experiences. 2023 Grad Camp Assessment | Graduate and Professional Student Government (GPSG) sponsored one virtual session and two in-person sessions of Grad Camp held on August 15th (virtual), August 17th, and August 19th. GPSG has worked with Student Affairs Planning, Assessment & Research (SAPAR) since 2009 to assess the experiences of counselors and the campers who attend Grad Camp. Fall 2023 Howdy Week | Howdy Week is a campus-wide collaboration to serve as Aggieland’s official welcome for all new and returning students. Howdy Week occurs the days before the start of the semester and was held on August 17-22, 2023. New Student and Family Programs (NSFP) wanted to understand students’ experiences attending the Fall 2023 Howdy Week. Assessment Basic Courses Training Series Assessment - 2022-2023 | One goal for Student Affairs Strategic Planning was to educate and develop staff within the Division of Student Affairs about assessment. To accomplish this goal, the department coordinated an Assessment Basic Courses (ABCs) training series throughout the 2022-2023 academic year. Five workshops were presented for the 2022-2023 academic year over the following topics: Assessment Planning Student Affairs Strategic Planning wanted to assess the participants’ learning at each workshop to understand if the intended learning outcomes for each one was met. Student Research Week - Spring 2023 | Student Research Week (SRW) is a four-day competition coordinated by the Graduate and Professional Student Government (GPSG). Students can share their research conducted at Texas A&M either through oral presentations or poster sessions. This year, Student Research Week was held March 20-24, 2023. The Graduate and Professional Student Government wanted to assess the experiences of the competitors, judges, and volunteers regarding their participation in Student Research Week 2023. Intramural Sports Participation Survey | Recreational Sports (Rec Sports) offers dozens of intramural activities each semester for a wide range of skill levels. Each year, more than 13,000 students participate in the intramural program. Staff members with Intramural Sports wanted to assess students who participated in the intramural program during the spring 2023 semester to understand their experiences and how to improve the program for the future. Disability Resources - Faculty Survey 2023 | Disability Resources gathers feedback from faculty members every few years to understand how they can best work with faculty to serve students. Specifically, Disability Resources wanted to identify areas of training that are most relevant to faculty members in working with students with disabilities. Health Promotion Alcohol Education Workshop Outcomes 2022-2023 | Students who receive a sanction to attend the Alcohol Education Workshop (AEW) are required to meet with a Health Promotion (HP) staff member prior to their workshop, attend the workshop, then come back for a follow-up meeting with the HP staff member approximately two weeks after participating in the workshop. Health Promotion wanted to assess whether the students attending AEW met the learning outcomes. Student Leader Inclusive Learning Outcomes 2022-2023 | Student Affairs Planning, Assessment & Research (SAPAR) and staff from the Department of Student Activities met with student leaders from multiple sponsored and affiliated Texas A&M University student organizations to develop student leader learning outcomes relevant to their organizational leadership experiences. These outcomes associated with the Texas A&M University (TAMU) undergraduate learning outcomes of life-long learning and demonstrate social, cultural and global competence. An assessment was created to gain insight from student organization leaders about experiences within their student organizations related to their progress in achieving both learning outcomes during the year. DSA Assessment Committee Member Survey - Spring 2023 | In the spring 2022 semester, Student Affairs Strategic Planning worked with graduate students in the EDAD 658 class to assess the members of the Division of Student Affairs (DSA) Assessment Committee to learn how the committee could be improved and to fulfill its mission. Student Affairs Strategic Planning implemented several recommendations provided by the graduate students throughout the academic year.
